Why Healthy Fats Is a Must

Whether you want to add more muscle mass to your frame or melt fat as fast as possible, healthy fats are something that you need to be taking in on a day-to-day basis. Sadly, many people start to shun fats as they think if they eat fat, they will gain fat.

That's not quite how it works. Sure, dietary fats are more calorie dense so it is easier to take in a higher amount of total calories if you eat them, but that said, if you moderate how much fat you're eating, there's absolutely no reason to cut them out entirely.

Let's have a look at why healthy fats are a must on your diet plan so that you can see how important they really are.

They Calm Hunger

First things first, diets that are very low in dietary fat are also going to tend to cause high amounts of hunger to occur as well. If you're eating just proteins and carbs, don't be surprised if you're hungry an hour after each meal you consume.

Fats help to boost the staying power of your meals, so will help you keep on track better with your diet plan.

They Stabilize Blood Glucose

Next, dietary fats are also required to help stabilize blood glucose levels as well. They don't impact insulin levels at all, so by eating them with meals, you'll get a slower blood glucose spike and will keep your energy levels on an even keel better than you would without.

If you often experience highs and lows throughout the course of the day, lack of dietary fat is often the reason this is occurring.

They're Required for Nutrient Absorption

The next reason that you must be eating some dietary fats in your diet plan is because they are also going to be required for nutrient absorption. The fat soluble vitamins are absorbed when you consume healthy fats with your meals, so if you aren't eating any fats at all, these vitamins may pass right through you.

This in time could lead to a significant deficiency, causing negative health implications to occur.

If you want to stay as healthy as possible, adding some fats to your diet will be a must.

They Keep Hormones Happy

Finally, the last reason why you must make sure that you are eating sufficient healthy fats in your diet is because they'll also help to keep your hormones happy.

More specifically, testosterone levels. While this will be a more predominant issue for males as they are higher in this hormone naturally, women have testosterone too, so it's something to take into account.

If you start to suffer from a drop in testosterone, there's a greater chance that you may begin losing lean muscle mass, and for males, sexual performance and ability may decline as well.

Testosterone is a very important hormone for the male body, and without enough dietary fat, it will start to slow in production.

So as you can see, there are a number of reasons why healthy fats must be included in your diet protocol. You should aim to get around half to one gram of dietary fat per pound of body weight per day, or take in no fewer than 25% of your total calorie intake from healthy fats.

Remember to focus on the unsaturated sources along with omega fatty acids, which are found in foods such as nuts, seeds, fatty fish, avocados, olive oil, and coconut. If you strive for balance with your diet, including all three nutrients, you will almost always fare better and feel healthier than if you don't.
