Calories are burned, even when the bodys at rest, thanks to metabolism. Your metabolism refers to all chemical events that take place in our body's cells. Metabolism is the process, by which, the body builds and maintains itself by breaking down food and nutrients to produce energy. I like to think of metabolism as the bodys furnace thats why the more you feed it; the better it burns; and the metabolic rate as how efficiently your furnace burns. To keep your furnace running smoothly you have to stoke it with premium, or healthy food choices or it will conk out on you.
Your metabolic rate, or how many calories your burn during and after a work out, is affected mostly by how much lean muscle your body is made up of. Lean muscle mass is the premium energy burner thats why the more muscle tissue you have; the faster youll burn fat and calories. This is why exercise is essential to a weight loss program. Cardiovascular and particularly resistance training help build lean muscle mass, thereby increasing your metabolism and helping to burn more fat even while at rest.
The Calories Burned Calculator will give you an average idea of how many calories you expend when doing your favorite exercise. Unfortunately, because all of our furnaces (metabolisms) burn at different rates, you cant measure precisely how many calories youll burn during exercise; however calculators can offer a good approximation.
Simply enter your weight (in either pounds or kilograms), then choose the activity you performed from the drop down menu, and finally enter the approximate distance you covered (in kilometers, yards, miles or meters) to discover just how many calories you burned doing your favorite activities.
