Fitness Articles
You've probably gathered from reading this site that fitness is a lifestyle for me. Really, fitness changed my life for the better. If you would have met me 8 years ago, you would have met someone who was extremely shy, self-conscious and unhappy with how they looked and felt. I cloaked myself in the idea that I wasn't good enough, smart enough or good looking enough to have a voice at my job, among my friends or in society. I virtually hid behind layers of fat.
I can remember that summer. I started working at a local factory in the town where I was from. If you've ever been on midnight shift then you know how dismal it can be going to work in the dark when everyone else is at home asleep in their warm beds. Since I had nothing to do in my off time because everyone I knew was working I decided to join the gym. Unfortunately, I did what so many out of shape people do upon entering a gym. I got intimidated when I saw all of the in-shape people working out.
So I went home and got depressed again. Lucky for me I spent a lot of time in the library I was always a bookworm and I got a hold of a book called Body for Life by a man named Bill Phillips (I wouldn't normally plug someone, but this guy is a genius). After reading this book something in me caught fire. The book was virtually a common-sense guide on how to make fitness a part of your life. This was no quick fix diet book and it contained no bull!
I usually shy away from self-help books, and if I wasn't working in a depressing factory on a depressing night shift I probably wouldn't have picked it up. After committing myself to a healthy lifestyle I lost 35 pounds of fat. Now that might not seem like a lot, but by losing that 35 pounds I gained muscle, energy, confidence and started believing in myself for the first time.
In writing this site and the following collection of fitness articles, I'm hoping to share with you some of the wisdom that Mr. Phillips imparted upon me. If you're out of shape, unhealthy and depressed about it, remember, you're worth so much more, but the changes have to start with you!
