Swivel Lat Bar
If you have the luxury of a multi gym at home then I highly suggest purchasing attachments in addition to the rigid lat bar that was included with your initial purchase.
If you're familiar with cable exercises then you already know how important cable attachments with swivel capabilities are. For those of you who aren't used to cable exercises, I'll try my best to conjure up a mental image for you. Imagine a typical lat bar cable attachment. This is a straight bar that kind of resembles a narrower, shorter barbell. Sure, it offers the perfect width for performing exercises like lat pull downs, bicep curls and triceps press downs. However, like a barbell, the lat bar is totally rigid.
Now, I've personally ran into some problems with that. For example, I found that the rigidness of the bar placed a lot of stress on my wrists. This is because a rigid bar won't accommodate my range of movement during the exercise and my wrists are often forced to maintain a stiff position to keep a hold of the bar.
A swivel bar, on the other hand, has a center swivel that allows constant tension throughout the exercise, while ensuring a fluid range of movement. As a result, I experience a lot less stress on my wrists because the bar swivels, allowing a freer range of motion that follows the natural movement of my wrists during curls, press downs, overhead extensions and upright row exercises. This swiveling ability makes my grip on the bar that much more comfortable and I'm able to concentrate on the exercise at hand without concentrating on my sore wrists.
Next time you go to the gym, make it a point to try a swivel bar if you haven't had the chance. I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding one as most gyms have them. Just attach it to the cable and perform a few bicep curls. I can almost guarantee you'll notice the difference that the swiveling motion makes right away.
You can find a lat bar cable attachment with swivel function for about $50 online.
