May is National Pet Month!

Ah May!

It's that wonderful time of year when the weather starts to warm up and the patios open. It's also the month when we're suddenly blinded by the snow white legs of our co-workers in shorts, and the month when we start to notice that everyone in our neighborhood has a dog! So it just makes perfect sense that May would be dubbed National Pet Month!

Bash Dibra, an Animal behaviorist and pet trainer to stars like Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Lopez wants you to know that "walking your dog is healthy exercise for both [of] you!" Not only will having a "best friend" get you outside and moving, it's also good therapy for Fido too. Dibra says that regular walks can curb a dog's destructive behavior and his or her excessive barking.

If you're not sure you can handle the responsibility of owning a dog, do what my fabulous friend Marlo is doing...look into fostering a homeless dog from a local pet shelter. Gauranteed you'll fall in love with Fido.

So grab that lease and get outside. Enjoy the sights and sounds of spring with your new best friend...and for the love of all runners, please remember to stoop and scoop!

I'm a certified personal trainer and professional writer, as well as the editor of Fitness Gear 101. I'm what I like to call a self-proclaimed "fitness geek", who basically eats, dreams and lives fitness. After spending this much time and energy on fitness, I figure I have to know a few useful tricks ;) I hope you enjoy the site, and learn a useful thing or two about your body, nutrition and health. Cheers, Anna
