Britney Spears: The demise of another blonde bombshell!

Just 2 weeks ago we witnessed the tragic death of Anna Nicole Smith – this week it’s Britney's turn!

You might wonder why I’m not laughing at her new bald-headed look and tattoos? Well because frankly it makes me sad and ashamed.

I watched the video of Britney on YouTube just like everyone else. However I didn’t find it the least bit funny – I found it downright tragic. When I watch the figure of the woman we all know as a pop princess with her newly sheathed head and fresh tattoos, I seen a woman who just wanted to feel – and who wanted to distance herself as far as possible from her fame.

In the YouTube interview with Emily Wynne-Hughes, the woman works at and spoke to Britney inside the tattoo parlor, recalled what Britney said when asked why she shaved her head. Wynne-Hughes proved me right when she recalled that “[Britney] said she was tired of having things plugged into it and that she didn’t want people to touch her…um she was tired of people touching her…she seemed like she was sick of it all…she really just wanted to be left alone.”

For me it wasn’t the shaved head and the tattoos that made me feel for Britney, it was her dire need to be just left alone.

Britney’s been our pop idol for sometime, and that comes with the constant demand to be cute and trendy. It’s a constant drain on her musical talents (and although I’m not a fan) it’s got to be stressful to be expected to keep churning out dance hit after dance hit. It’s also the pressure of facing scrutiny every time she leaves the house – what she wears, who she’s with, and how she behaves in public.

I think Britney just cracked – much like Anna Nicole.

For me Britney is the second blonde bombshell that we’ve obliterated in a matter of a month. Do we really think that we have a right to peep and criticize the bizarre life of celebrities 24 hours a day? We’ve condemned everything from the Britster’s parenting skills to her choice in a husband. Would you feel you had the right to do this to your neighbors? To your friends? Do we honestly think its ok to publicly laugh at and obliterate those we are supposed to idolize and love?

Well it seems that a shaved head and tattoos is Britney’s way of telling us that she no longer wants our love and our idolization…that she just wants us to leave her alone.

Obviously this woman is hurting. Her self-esteem is basically non-existent - and can you blame her? Would you do the same due to the constant public scrutiny?

I personally think it’s time we left Britney alone. She needs to get her health back - that means body and mind. It's also time we let Anna Nicole Smith rest in peace.

Well said Anna. Despite the perks, it actually must be extremely difficult to live the life of a celebrity - we build them up to the point where they feel like they have to produce, and then no matter what they do we end up picking them apart.

To have it in your face 24 hours a day can do terrible things to your self-image.  Think of how the average woman (or man) takes one negative comment and can't help but fixate on it, and then picture it applied to your clothes, your homelife, your social life and your career.  Think of having your worst pictures posted on magazines, your skill in your work ripped apart, and basically havng anything you do that is just you open to scrutiny at a whim.

It's no way to live, regardless of the fame and fortune.

What's being blonde got to do with anything?

She wants to be left alone? Then why is she performing in public? Stay in re-hab, get cleaned up, get your kids back. Hire the best therapist money can buy. Stop bashing cars with umbrellas. How tough is it to spot a publicity stunt? It's falling out of her diva status that she has a problem with, not being hounded. Move somewhere private, with all that money she could go anywhere. Stop doing stupid things in public places. Can't she just stay home and shave her head if that's what she wants? Couldn't she afford to get a private stylist come to her? People who want to be out of the public eye and in private with their families don't go out drinking with Paris Hilton wearing no panties.

You've both raised some more very important questions Paula and Jess:

Would Britney or Anna-Nicole still have felt the need to perform publically if they were not in the media spotlight? My thoughts - probably not. It's the age-old "what came first the chicken or egg?" debate. So then aren't their actions a result of the pressure the media put on them? Also both are not natural blondes. Why the hair dye? Why the self-destruction? Why the shocking publicity stunts?

Aren't all of these actions desperate attempts to be viewed in a certain light?

That's exactly what I'm saying Anna, it's not that they want to be left alone at all, it's a cry for help. If they wanted to be alone they wouldn't deliberetly be in public, commiting these crazy acts. Why hair dye? geepers, most women dye their hair, I don't see the connection. Wouldn't they act the same if they had any hair colour?
