Just in time for the holiday season participating Burger King Restaurants are offering one of eight exclusive Dance Dance Revolution toy premiums with each purchase of a Kids Meal from December 4th through December 31st, 2006.
While I admire the King’s attempt to promote fitness to kids, I was a little cynical about the fact that they are still scoffing down a cheeseburger and fries before they can Dance, Dance, Dance!
Maybe it’s lingering resentment to the King. I have a confession to make. You see, the King and I have history. I was a Burger King employee from the age of 14 to 19 years old. I spent 5 years in that grease-pit, and I devoured all of the crap on the menu. However I guess things have changed in the burger kingdom since I departed. In the past 11 years it seems the King has changed his royal palette a bit. Instead of just chicken tenders (they are crown-shaped by the way), burgers, cheese burgers and fries in his kid’s meals, he’s now featuring new “smarter” menu choices – to the tune of low fat milk and chocolate milk, apple sauce and fruit juices. However what about the healthy main course? I don’t see a grilled chicken breast or a fresh deli sandwich in sight among the other non-artery-clogging main meal choices?
Bottom line: The King’s menu is still dominated by burgers and fries. So really I find the whole Burger King promotion hypocritical at best! What kind of message is the King giving kids when they have to eat a burger and fries to get a Dance Dance Revolution game?
I honestly think the whole promotion is royal bribery at best!
