Beware of energy drainers
Cheryl Richardson has definitely made a name for herself as a pivotal leader in the fitness industry. Many of us know Cheryl Richardson from her work on the “Lifestyle Makeover” series that appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show. If not, then maybe you’ve heard of her as the author of one of these New York Times bestsellers: Take Time for Your Life, Life Makeovers, Stand Up for Your Life or The Unmistakable Touch of Grace.
Still nothing? Then you definitely know her from her TV appearances on The Today Show, Good Morning America and CBS This Morning, or in several periodicals, such as The New York Times, USA Today, Good Housekeeping and O Magazine. No? Then almost certainly from her life coaching column in Body & Soul Magazine or her radio talk show Coach on Call.
In any case, here are the top six energy “drainers,” from master certified lifestyle coach, Cheryl Richardson:
- Debt. Undoubtedly the cause of inadequate sleep, high stress and conflicts with your spouse, debt can ultimately lead to poor health, fatigue and lack of energy for exercise.
- Clutter. Lifestyle coaches will tell you that organizing a messy life leads to less stress, better sleep and the ability to better focus on your goals – minus messy distractions.
- Work stress. Hey, this one should be top on the list – what’s it doing at number 3? We all can sympathize with how a stressful day at work can lead to a dash for the closest pint of Häagen-Dazs chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and a large spoon!
- Needy friends. See my post on “Unhealthy Friendships.”
- Unmet needs. This can be anything from unhappy or unfulfilled work, an emotionally abusive spouse, lack of a social network or feelings of inadequacy due to zero positive reinforcement in your life.
- Health problems. Chronic illness, joint or muscle injury, chronic pain, mental illness or gastro-intestinal problems can all be responsible for drainage.
If you can identify even one of these “drainers” in your life, you will need to make some changes. Remember, a happy body, mind and spirit equals a happy, healthy life. Thanks again for your incredibly informative and inspiring words, Cheryl!
