Nike+iPod

I just caught the promo for the new Nike+iPod Sport Kit…and all I can say is WOW!

The Nike+iPod Sport Kit, is set to hit the streets and gyms in just a few short months. Now if you take your iPod running, but are a bit annoyed by it’s bouncing up and down on your waistband then the Nike+iPod is your answer. This kit marries the two things you love most – running and hands-free music. The wireless device fits snuggly into any pair of Nike iPod-compatible running shoes. A receiver is then attached to your iPod. The small Nike+iPod wireless system is actually a mini iPod that fits inside your sneakers, and not only plays your favorite tunes, it also tracks your distance run, time run, pace, and you’re your calories burned.

Now that's what I call a snazzy pair of sneakers!

Check the Nike+iPod out for yourself here.

As a follow up to my post on the Nike+iPod yesterday, I did a little surfing to see what other people were saying about the marriage of Nike footwear and iTunes. During my search I found the most entertaining product review I think I've ever read on the electronic gadgets Blog Home Theater Focus -http://www.hometheaterfocus.com/blog/archive/2006/05/26/3302.aspx. No really, it almost puts the scathing cynicism in my Stupid Fitness Idea of the Week -http://www.fitnessgear101.com/blogs/default.aspx?GroupID=36 - to shame.

The post totally slams the giant egos of both Nike and Apple for, as the editor so aptly puts it " [figuring out yet another] way to sell a few more iPods and a new pair of Nike shoes." However he doesn’t stop there. His disgust of Apple’s flagrant pimpage of iPod, by slapping their name on absolutely anything that moves (or doesn’t move for that matter) is perfectly summed up in this line here “Now excuse me while iBarf in my iBag. At least my gastronomic upheaval is conveniently recharging my iPod!”

Thank you Home Theater Focus for your thoughts on the Nike+iPod union. My guess is that you won’t be sending a wedding gift.

So do the rest of you agree or disagree with the value of the Nike+iPod as a fitness tool?

You know, Nike+iPod might actually be pretty cool ... for about an hour. And therein lies the problem with gimmic products.

The iPod itself is a very cool wonderfully designed MP3 player. But every product manufacturer now wants to slap an iPod port on it so they can hook up with the iPod. Even Nike is trying to cash in on the action.

The iPod is to 2005/2006 consumer electronics what Micheal Jackson was to the recording industry in the 80s. Everyone from Van Halen to Paul McCarteny wanted to do a tune with Micheal. Heck even his disenfranchaised brothers were desperate to do a number with the moonwalking pop icon.

What you say is true GarbageDog! I certainly smell a moonwalk!!!

However, if you’re feeling like getting a little gimmicky like Beatle Paul dying to “Beat It” with the King of Pop himself, then Speck Products might have just slapped an “i” on your next favorite workout partner.

Introducing the Active Sport line of iPod cases from Speck, designed specifically for video iPod and iPod nano users who like to get their sweat on while listening to their iPods.

The Active Sport products are priced between $24.95 and $34.95, they feature sport armband style iPod cases with breathable mesh and a screen protector that can be strapped and adjusted to fit a runner or cyclist’s arm. The arm straps also have reflective abilities to keep you visible during night time workouts. Cases made of soft fabric lining with carabineer clip attachments lay on the lower end of the pricing spectrum.

hello all

I have fed Fitnesgear101.com a link on my blog! =)

I know, it's more genuine when you don't say anything but I thought it was a lame excuse to get people excited about silly iPod ideas.

If you think the Nike+iPod collabration is cool, you should check out both PumpOne.com and youPump.com. They have taken iPod fitness to another level entirely.
You can get tons of great workouts at a very reasonable price or if you are a personal trainer you can make your own workouts and sell them online. Pretty neat.

Thanks for the recommendation Pete!

You're right youPump is very cool, and another excellent example about how technology can help us get fit! I visited their booth at the Can-Fit-Pro conference I attended in Toronto in August, as well as the IDEA Fitness Conference in Las Vegas this past July.

For readers who aren't familiar with this virtual personal trainer technology, PumpOne is used by personal trainers to upload their workout programs and workouts, images into Windows and Mac OS installers. The workouts are then available for clients to purchase and download.

This is another example of great virtual fitness possibilities for those who want to work out at home, but can't afford a private trainer, and for trainers to expand their client base - regardless of how many hours are in a day!

It’s called common sense. Something that I guess people these days have forgotten. Naturally if you are going to blast your iPod in your ears at full volume you will have hearing problems. If you can’t control the volume then you shouldn’t own any kind of stereo equipment at all because they can all damage your ears easily. Apple or any company cannot be your baby sitter for what you do with your equipment every second of the day.
